Sustainable Drug Funding and Pharmaceutical Innovation

Brussels, Belgium
May 9th, 2017

While breakthroughs in medical research allow humans to live a longer and more enjoyable life, regulators and NGOs push for more restrictive price controls of pharmaceuticals, make market access harder for innovative drugs, and threaten the property rights of drug manufacturers. The extremely fast development of the Ebola vaccine shows how much investments in private enterprise and innovation can help humanity. Consumers are having almost no say when it comes to the access to medicine; long approval processes and prospective reimbursement lists limit consumers’ and patients’ choice and access to innovative treatments.

With stakeholder events the Consumer Choice Center aims to raise public awareness of the importance of innovation in the pharmaceutical industry. Experts will showcase different ways on how to increase consumer choice and allow innovation funding.

  • Sarunas Narbutas, Lithuanian Cancer Patient Coalition (POLA)
